Summer Vacation Movies (For When You Can’t Go on Vacation)

Hotel Transylvania 3 premieres on Thursday, July 12 at The Point in Littleton, MA and in Brickyard Square in Epping, NH.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

In this third film in the Hotel Transylvania series, Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) surprises Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. On the cruise, Drac meets the mysterious ship Captain, Ericka (voiced by Kathryn Hahn), who’s actually a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, ancient nemesis to Dracula and all other monsters.

The animated comedy is rated PG and is 1 hour, 37 minutes.

Summer Vacation Movies

If you can’t go on vacation, like the monsters from Hotel Transylvania 3, you can always escape to the movies. Here are some of the best Summer Vacation Movies.

National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)

Chevy Chase takes his family across the country to Wally World. And getting there is anything but a vacation.

Vacation (2015)

Ed Helms plays a grown-up version of Rusty, son of Chevy Chase’s Clark Griswold, from National Lampoon’s Vacation. He, too, tries to take his family to Wally World, and hilarity ensues.

Weekend at Bernie’s (1989)

Imagine showing up at your boss’s Hamptons beach house. . .and he’s dead. Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman have the worst weekend ever in this comedy classic.

The Parent Trap (1998)

In this update of the Hayley Mills comedy, Lindsay Lohan plays two roles as twins separated at birth who meet at a summer camp and then switch places to get to know the parents they never met.

The Sandlot (1993)

One big summer and one big dog. A group of neighborhood misfits spend the summer playing baseball in the 1960s.

Adventureland (2009)

Sometimes the best summer fun is at your summer job. In this comedy, recent college graduate Jesse Eisenberg takes a job at an amusement park and falls in love.

The Way, Way Back (2013)

The film’s title refers to that section of the station wagon that faces drivers: the way, way back. The film tells the story of a shy teenager who befriends a manager at a local water park while on vacation. Stars Liam James, Steve Carell, Maya Rudolph, Toni Collette, and Sam Rockwell.
